Our early plans
South Brooks is a proposed new solar farm with battery storage located in Kent and connecting into the National Grid at Dungeness.
The plan on this page shows the initial area (1,094 hectares) that we are considering for South Brooks. We do not expect to use all of this area for generating and storing energy. We also want to use parts of the land to deliver ecological, landscape and recreational enhancements.
Feedback from the initial consultation, along with the results of environmental surveys and technical work, will help refine the layout for South Brooks so that it is sensitive to surrounding communities and responds to the distinctive character of the local area.
Like all solar farms, South Brooks would be temporary. It would have a fixed lifespan of around 60 years and would be built and operated without damage to the land beneath it. This means that once the panels are removed, the land could be returned to agricultural production. In fact, during operation the land between and beneath solar farms can be used for all sorts of things – from sheep grazing to providing new habitats for pollinators.

Public consultation
We consulted with the local community and stakeholders to develop and refine the early plans for South Brooks. Phase One Consultation ran for six weeks between 18 September and 30 October 2025.
During this initial phase of consultation, we shared our early plans and inviting feedback on all aspects of the proposed site. As a result of this feedback we will tailor our plans further, and will share these revised plans during a second phase of consultation in 2026. This will be another opportunity to share your views, and it will also include the outputs of our preliminary environmental assessment work.
