Our updated plans

South Brooks is a proposed new solar farm with battery storage located in Kent and connecting into the National Grid at Dungeness.

The plan on this page shows the updated operational layout for South Brooks, which has been updated following the public consultation we held last year.

Comments received from the consultation, along with environmental studies, has led to a reduction of 20% in the developable area (655.3ha) and a 25% increase in areas set aside for ecology and landscaping. This includes a 43-hectare (106 acre) area of land adjacent to RSPB Dungeness which would be dedicated to biodiversity.

Consultation on the updated plans took place between 28 May – 16 July 2026 and the feedback received, alongside technical work and environmental studies, is being reviewed to refine the plans ahead of submitting a Development Consent Order application.

Like all solar farms, South Brooks would be temporary. It would have a fixed lifespan of around 60 years and would be built and operated without damage to the land beneath it. This means that once the panels are removed, the land could be returned to agricultural production. In fact, during operation the land between and beneath solar farms can be used for all sorts of things – from sheep grazing to providing new habitats for pollinators.

A downloadable copy of this plan is available on the ‘Document Library‘ page of this website.

How it works

Public consultation

Consultation is running between 28 May and 9 July 2026. This is the second phase of consultation we are carrying out on our plans for South Brooks.

During this consultation, we will be sharing the updated proposals for South Brooks and inviting feedback on all aspects of the proposed site. We will also be sharing the outcomes of the early assessment work we have undertaken.

Feedback from this consultation will help us to refine the proposals ahead of submission of the DCO application.
